About the University Lecture Series

The Carnegie Mellon University Lecture Series features a broad spectrum of speakers and scholars on a wide range of topics. On occasion, students who nominate a lecturer are given the opportunity to take part in the planning process.

About My Involvement with the University Lecture Series:

During 2007, Scott McCloud came out with his latest book, "Making Comics," and proceeded to do a 50-state tour of book signings and lectures to promote the release (as well as take a family vacation across the country). When I heard about his US tour, I contacted him to schedule a lecture at Carnegie Mellon during his Pennsylvania visit. I was then able to get the support of the Carnegie Mellon University Lectures Series and the financial support of the Student Activites Center to fund and provide a venue for his appearance.

During the semester of preparations, my responsibilites included:

  • Scheduling and coordinating McCloud's tour and interviews with the School of Art, School of Drama, and ETC.
  • Planning the lecture date & location.
  • Coordinating with ULS and Student Activities for funding and housing.
  • Publicizing the event throughout the campus community and with the local the comicbook community.
