Description
Fuzzballs is a 2008 BVW World done on the Playmotion screen, a camera system that tracks you shadow. This was a Round 2 assignment for the class, which is taught by Jesse Schell. For this project, our objective was to make an experience that was intuitive to a naive user.
Fuzzballs is a simple game where your objective is to guide the fuzzball creatures to their home.
Design/Concept
The playmotion screen tracks your shadow and locates the topmost, leftmost, and rightmost positions. However, what is visible to the naive user is when an on-screen object reacts to their shadow. That play with a mirrored image is something that we all relate to from childhood. To make a game the most intuitive, it was important that the in-game element react to the guest first.
As soon as the guest stands in front of the screen, the fuzzballs immediately collide with her shadow. They climb on her, incorporating the person into this environment immediately. The fuzzballs recognize her first. The guest plays with the fuzzballs like a toy and, with the visual cues, guides them to the opposite end to their home.
